Thanks to the helpful and charming Jetblue Staff, Flight 209 landed in Long Beach Airport at 3:50pm on Sunday. From then on it was a journey and of course a new chapter.
Although the Roller Hockey world is quite large, it is also incredible small…If that makes any sense? At all these great tournament series we are involved in, you see many of the same faces. That’s what I mean when I say the community is small. I got picked up after grabbing my gear and luggage it was off to a Memorial Day party.
It was at this party I met my new pal Jonas Keszei. Jonas and I are out in Southern California to help out Mission Hockey gear up for their summer escapade, events, tournaments (whatever you want to call it!).
Jonas is from Sweden and I am from Tampa/NY so we both have not been to Southern California. We have heard so many great things and of course seen many pictures, TV shows etc.
Yesterday (May 30th) we started our day bright and early. Grabbed some lunch at “Island” and relaxed by the pool. Eventually we got a call from our buddy and of course legend Jay Russell who was our California guide for the day.
Captain Russell took us to Laguna Beach while blasting the theme song of the TV show. I was pretty embarrassed. I won’t lie. Then off to Corona del Mar beach we went. Took off the sandals and got the feet in the sand. It was a family atmosphere on Memorial Day and beautiful weather.
Then off to Newport Beach it was to meet our good friend over at Rink Rat, George Collins. George took us to his favorite Mexican joint, Great Mex. I have to say I was pretty impressed and left with a full stomach. It was Captain Russell’s idea to take us on a romantic walk to the pier to end our excursion.
It has only been a day and a half and California has been great to us. More blogs and stories sure to come in the future!
